Divers who found the vehicle and recovered the remains believe both belong to James Amiable, a Ridley Township man who left to pick his daughters up from a babysitter and never showed up on Dec. 4, 2003.
The discovery was made Saturday, March 19, by Adventures with Purpose Underwater Dive and Recovery, a volunteer search and rescue organization that works directly with families.
Amabile's vehicle and remains were found in the Ridley Township Municipal Marina around 3 p.m., the organization said. Divers recovered a license plate and human remains, and spending nearly 40 minutes digging out remains.
“After searching several waterways our investigation took us to Stingers waterfront where 18 years later we were able to utilize technology not available at the time of his disappearance, to uncover a submerged vehicle in Darby creek 200 yards away, 24 feet beneath the surface,” Adventures with Purpose writes on Facebook.
Team Divers from Adventures with Purpose along with members of the Ridley Township Police Department, Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office, Leedom Fire Company and the Ridley Township Marina Staff assisted in the removal of underwater evidence.
The Investigation is continuing. The Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office is examining the human remains for positive identification.
Due to the sensitive nature of this discovery, the missing person’s family requests privacy while the investigation is ongoing.
